Most timber frames are enclosed with structural insulated panels or SIPS. SIPS are simply two pieces of oriented strand board sandwiched around an expanded polystyrene core -- they provide the enclosure and the insulation all in one. SIPS provide a highly energy efficient enclosure, combining high R value without thermal breaks and a tight seal. In addition, a SIP enclosure typically goes up in a matter of days, meaning your timber frame can be fully enclosed and all but dried-in almost immediately after raising. Explore the links above for more information about the process.
Most of our panels are provided by Enercept, Inc. We've worked with several panel companies, and are very pleased with the quality of panels and their fair prices. Check out Enercept's web site for a complete rundown of panel specs, uses, and installation.
