Insulation
Energy efficiency is insured through the use of SIPS (structurally insulated panels), which provides significantly more insulation than the walls of the typical traditionally built home. But there are more environmentally friendly enclosure systems still. For example, one can use straw bale or clay/straw pack to enclose a timberframe home. These alternative systems provide maximal energy efficiency, their source is entirely renewable, and they produce no nonbiodegradable waste. They are also remarkably beautiful when finished with plaster or stucco.

The typical timber frame, complete with a great room and multi-story pictures window is ideal for soaking in the sun. We will be happy to provide a design maximizing this effect. In addition, we can help design a foundation for your home which will distribute the solar energy your home absorbs to where it is needed most. Homes with such passive solar systems are known to maintain a constant temperature of greater than 60 degrees throughout harsh New England winters. We can design and build you a gorgeous and environmentally friendly home.
